Day 61 | 100 Days of Self Care

IMG_9623Our Easter holiday did not go as planned. A car packed and prepared for the variety of events planned for the day did not stop my sweet boy from getting strep. We made it through church (half way to our families) and had to turn back. No bueno. There were quick tears and then quick acceptance (proof that he was not feeling well).

My dear girl tried everything to make it to see her cousins, including suggesting we drive the 1h 15m back home to “drop the boys off and we can go back.” After awhile she reluctantly accepted that wasn’t going to happen and asked if “the boys can stay home and we can go hiking.” And I agreed.

Today’s Self Care Stats:

Accomplished

  • Was totally moved by the spirit that some people put out there
  • Nice hike up Tully Mountain with my girl
  • Watercolor painting, playing “house,” and snacks while up there
  • Healthy and delicious(!) dinner made by my man
  • Obtained a “normal folks” bedtime

How I felt

Today felt like a total lemons to lemonade day. The total bummed out feeling from our change of plans eventually morphed into sweet moments with my girl. Our random conversations and “peanut power-ups” where we ate a few shelled peanuts for our hike-breaks really turned the day around. And then, when we were walking down the mountain, she turned to me and said, “mom, I didn’t like earlier today, but I really love hiking and eating peanuts with you,” – that made my world right there.

Take away point

Things don’t always go as planned, but there are still treasures to be found in the day.

Day 60 | 100 Days of Self Care

IMG_9581Happy 60th!

To celebrate, I did a few mini watercolor exercises.  It’s all downhill from here, folks. The last 40 will be over in a blink!

Today’s Self Care Stats:

Accomplished

  • AM Protein shake
  • LOTS of painting (to learn and explore)
  • Some of that painting was with my girl
  • Mile walk/run with the family and Sky
  • Knee exercises/stretches
  • Listened to good music
  • Nice sit down family dinner and everyone ate their meals with no complaints
  • Some reading
  • Early bedtime (I just realized, to me, “early” means before midnight)

How I felt

I wish most days were like today. Chill, but productive. I love the family time and I love the “in my head” time that painting provides.

Take away point

I need heavier paper for my watercolors.

Day 59 | 100 Days of Self Care

IMG_7742There’s a certain peace that comes over me after I paint. I don’t know why sometimes it’s so hard to do it. The business and marketing stuff is easy. I can totally lean into that. Sometimes it’s a default… and then eventually I can’t stand it and I HAVE to paint.

Today’s Self Care Stats:

Accomplished

  • Half mile walk/run with pup in the rain
  • Managed to get some watercolor painting in!
  • Listened to financial podcasts
  • Family time for Easter! (card playing, homemade fish and chips, egg decorating, cookies, and baking muffins for the AM)
  • Some reading
  • Normal bedtime

How I felt

Didn’t fair well in the healthy food department, but family time was great (with only minimal bickering).

Take away point

I really need to paint to stay leveled out.
