Our Easter holiday did not go as planned. A car packed and prepared for the variety of events planned for the day did not stop my sweet boy from getting strep. We made it through church (half way to our families) and had to turn back. No bueno. There were quick tears and then quick acceptance (proof that he was not feeling well).
My dear girl tried everything to make it to see her cousins, including suggesting we drive the 1h 15m back home to “drop the boys off and we can go back.” After awhile she reluctantly accepted that wasn’t going to happen and asked if “the boys can stay home and we can go hiking.” And I agreed.
Today’s Self Care Stats:
- Was totally moved by the spirit that some people put out there
- Nice hike up Tully Mountain with my girl
- Watercolor painting, playing “house,” and snacks while up there
- Healthy and delicious(!) dinner made by my man
- Obtained a “normal folks” bedtime
How I felt
Today felt like a total lemons to lemonade day. The total bummed out feeling from our change of plans eventually morphed into sweet moments with my girl. Our random conversations and “peanut power-ups” where we ate a few shelled peanuts for our hike-breaks really turned the day around. And then, when we were walking down the mountain, she turned to me and said, “mom, I didn’t like earlier today, but I really love hiking and eating peanuts with you,” – that made my world right there.
Take away point
Things don’t always go as planned, but there are still treasures to be found in the day.
