Yoga Reflection

The good you find in others, is in you too.
The faults you find in others, are your faults as well.
After all, to recognize something you must know it.
The possibilities you see in others, are possible for you as well.
The beauty you see around you, is your beauty.
The world around you is a reflection, a mirror
showing you the person you are.
To change your world, you must change yourself.
To blame and complain will only make matters worse.
Whatever you care about, is your responsibility.
What you see in others, shows you yourself.
See the best in others, and you will be your best.
Give to others, and you give to yourself.
Appreciate beauty, and you will be beautiful.
Admire creativity, and you will be creative.
Love, and you will be loved.
Seek to understand, and you will be understood.
Listen, and your voice will be heard.
Show your best face to the mirror, and you’ll be happy
With the face looking back at you.

My yoga instructor finished off our yoga session tonight with this poem. The words rang true and after this hellish day – cut to the bone. I am a huge contributor to my frustrations. I do alright at keeping the stress at bay but like a ream of paper… adding one sheet at at time… it builds. Then the burden of carrying the extra weight becomes so laborious that I would love nothing more than to burst into flames.

As I did my third Child’s Pose for the evening I felt all sorts of releases in my spine. Releases in places I wasn’t aware I was holding so tightly. It was like being stuck in a humid closet and the door suddenly opens. The cool air is unexpected but very welcome to enter.

While we were winding down our practice, I noticed some students wrapping themselves in blankets and putting on sweaters. I’m prone to heat so I don’t fuss with blankets and sweaters. Hell, I don’t even own a winter jacket. I store a lot of heat. It could be my Italian blood… or the onions and garlic. Or it’s possible that’s related to amount of stress and tension [or even anger] I hold on to…. it’s possible.

It’s something to look at.
